How results are calculated

Review the formulas, assumptions, ranges and limitations used by AkwariumTo calculators.

Volume

For a rectangular tank, length, width and height are multiplied and divided by 1000. Net volume is reduced by the user-entered displacement percentage.

Filter flow

Required real flow equals net volume multiplied by chosen hourly turnover. Nominal flow compensates for the declared performance loss.

Heater

An approximate coefficient is selected from the temperature difference. The next common wattage is chosen. This is a cautious starting point, not a thermal engineering design.

Water mixing

Tap-water share is calculated by linear interpolation between RO and tap values. The method assumes the selected parameter mixes linearly.

Weight

Water is estimated at about 1 kg per litre. Glass weight uses panel surface area, thickness and a density of 2500 kg/m³.
